Based in Bristol and Bath these beginners art classes cover a range of different techniques.  You'll learn about proportion, shading and colour mixing using materials as varied as acrylic, pencil,  watercolour and pastel all taught in a patient and sympathetic way because we all need a little encouragement sometimes!  All painting and drawing materials are included in the cost of the course too but if you'd prefer to bring your own let us know.  We take a relaxed but informative approach, experimentation is encouraged and we particularly like to help beginners   so if you are worried about whether you think you have any artistic talent this is the course for you.  I've been running art classes for  28 years now and you can read lots of testimonials from previous students by clicking here

We will be running a 6 week beginners drawing class at Cotham School and an 8 week combined drawing and painting class starting from the week of May 12th. The cost will be £78 for the 6 week class and £104 for the 8 week class. All materials are included in the cost of the course. Venues include St Alphege's Church and Oldfield Park School (in Bath) and Horfield Parish Church Hall and Stoke Bishop Village Hall in Bristol for the 8 week classes and Cotham School for the 6 week class. Is this the class for me?  If you are like most people you were probably never taught any techniques when you were young; you  were  just given a pencil and told to "draw something", Because of
this you've probably assumed that art is one of those subjects that's impossible to learn,  "either you're good at it or you're not".  In fact there are lots of techniques that once learnt can finally allow you to put down what you can see on paper. (I was never taught much until I went to art college,
​ even though I could have  learnt a lot of it  when I was younger.)

Just as  people enjoy sport or learning a language painting and drawing is a rich and rewarding activity. It's not just about making something nice to put on the wall!  It's great  therapy if you need a bit of "me" time after work, It'll change the way you look at the world and it'll put a spirit of play and experimentation back into your life. It's a chance to make new friends and maybe you'll finally learn how to use that tin of water soluble pencils that your kids or partner bought you when you retired or for your birthday last year but you haven't got around to using yet!
