ART CLASSES STARTING AGAIN SOON IN BRISTOL AND BATH

Art Classes for Complete Beginners will be starting again in the week beginning from the 15th September 2008. These evening and daytime courses last for ten weeks in Bristol or eight weeks in Bath.  They are a friendly, informal series of painting and drawing lessons that will show you how you start to get something down on paper and help you to get to grips with all the various aspects of shading, proportion and colour mixing.  A variety of different painting and drawing materials are covered including pencil, watercolour, acrylic and pastel, all at the very reasonable price of £49 for ten lessons in Bristol and £49 for eight lessons in Bath.  All the materials are included. They are ideal if you want to just "dip your toes into the water" and don't yet want the commitment and bother of a college course.

ART IS FOR EVERYONE, OR SHOULD BE!

The aim, simply, is to promote art to the sort of person who wouldn't normally come to an art class.  As such they are primarily aimed at complete beginners or people who've done the odd art class over the years but still see themselves as "starting out". The people who attend are of all ages, from people in their teens to those of retirement age and beyond.
You may well be the sort of person who quite enjoyed art at school but weren't one of the privileged few to whom it probably seemed to come naturally.  You may be someone who has retired and has had a set of watercolours sitting on top of your wardrobe for years (probably bought by one of your children)  and still hasn't figured how to use them.  You might possibly be someone who would love to have a go at some drawing and painting but has no idea of where to start, assuming that because you have had bad experiences of art at school that there's no hope for you now!.  So many people believe that  they are "useless" at art when the fact is noone as ever really taught them before.  You may be someone who enjoyed art at school but was encouraged to study science subjects and now find yourself wanting to take the subject up again.  Some of the people who attend are fairly capable draughtspeople, almost without realising it, but don't understand how proportion works.  Many more need practise but are more than able to get past the pin figure stage.  Because the materials are provided you get a chance to try a wide selection of media without investing a lot of money beforehand, although I do have discount schemes with various art shops in Bristol and Bath such as Bristol Fine Art in Park Row, so if you do feel that you'd like to treat yourself you'll be able to do so with a 10% discount.

A CHANCE TO PLAY

If you decide to come along you'll learn many interesting techniques and ideas.  There are, however all sorts of positive reasons for coming to a beginners art class that are just as important. It's not just about doing something good enough to stick on your fridge when you get home! For many learning how to look is like a form of meditation in itself and coming to a beginners art class will enhance your appreciation of the visual world.  For some it's a chance to have a chat and make new friends. Others enjoy the chance to have a dabble and experiment with different materials while others value the chance to have a bit of "me time" away from their family for a couple of hours.  Just remember, if you come along you won't be expected to produce a masterpiece, all you have to do is be prepared to come and have a go.!
